Mistassbit Nord Est Canoe Trip: The Mistassibi North East is a northern Quebec Classic offering great northern Canadian Sheild and boreal forest scenery, rapids and waterfalls. Our trip will spend 8 days descending the stunning upper stretches of the river. Along this 150km section we will encounter almost 80 rapids ranging in size from class 1 to class 3. There is one beautiful waterfall requiring a short portage and several ledges and larger drops that require linning, but other than that most rapids can be run. We've planned 8 days, a relaxed pace to allow time for fishing, swimming, whitewater practice or simply relaxing. The sometimes deep upper river valley is forested primarily with stunted black spruce, as we travel south the forest becomes more varied. On many trips we expect to encounter no other paddlers. Fishing is excellent along the route. Skill level required is intermediate.
Itinerary:
Day 0: The group will meet in the village of Mistassini/Dolbeau (north of Lac St. Jean) for morning departure the next day. We meet on the evening of Aug 22 at Motel Chutes des Peres
Day 1: We will several hours north on logging roods to near the headwaters of the NE branch of the ...
